Ken Papaleo: X Marks the Shot: Mount Evans, Idaho Spring, Colorado.

Mount Evans, Idaho Spring, Colorado.

"X Shot" information.
Camera - Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III
ISO - 1000
Shutter - 1/5000
F/stop - 4
Lens - 500 mm

LOCATION.
1. Mount Evans is about a one hour drive from Denver.
2. Take the Mount Evans exit out of Idaho Springs.
3. If you want to go up to the top of Mount Evans, you need to do it by Monday. For some reason that  part of the road is closed after the Labor  Day holiday. You can still drive to Summit Lake, until snow
closes the road for the season.

THE CHALLENGE.
I have always got a kick out of how close you can get to the wildlife up here. The animals are use to humans and have no fear of us. To show this, would be my challenge on this shoot.

SOLUTION.
I had to find a photo with a animal and a human, somehow interacting, to make this work. I decided to us my 500 mm lens, this would knock out the back ground and let me shoot from a distance, with out disturbing what was going on. I drove up and down the higher section of the road, seeing wildlife, but no people or seeing people but no animals. Finally it happened, I stopped about 50 yards away and started shooting. A photographer had a mom mountain goat and her baby, right in front of her. It looked like they were posing! If this happens to you, make sure you don't get between the mom and her young one.  This could be dangerous!
