Challenge.
We were on our way to visit our son, Jordan and his family, including our new granddaughter. How do you give yourself the best opportunity to get nice photos.

Solution.
There are a number of things you can do to help with this situation.
1. Pick a good location, someplace that would be fun for the children.
2. Try to get the group family shot out of the way first, while the young ones are kind of cooperating.
3. When the children start to get agitated, don't force the issue. Stop and let them play in the area you
     picked.
4. While they are having fun, pic off good shots as the happen. These usually are genuine photos.
5. Always keep you eye out for nice images. Even in the car, opportunities are there, you just have to
be ready to save that moment.

Challenge.
I was off to take photos of the rising Harvest Moon but there was a lot of cloud cover. I have learned from experience, you go anyway and see what happens.

Solution.
What happened, the clouds got thicker and real scary looking. I was facing east, from Lookout Mountain Road, taking photos as the clouds did their thing. During any landscape shoot, I always take a look behind me, just in case. This time I was very surprised, right above me, what looked like a funnel, was dropping out of the cloud ceiling. It almost touched the ground before it dissipated.  The main point of this blog is not to let the weather change your mind about going on a shoot. Go and see what you come up with. I never did see the moon that night, but being out there, gave me the opportunity to get some real nice cloud shots. I love clouds, their like fingerprints, no two are ever the same.

Instead of my "Weekend Flash Back" post, I decided to do a blog on Loveland Basin getting ready for Opening Day, which is tomorrow, Thursday, 10/17/2013.  These photos show some of the activities  going on today. The amount of fresh snow was amazing for this time of the year. With all this, more runs should open real soon. Loveland is my favorite place to ski, from its great powder to its friendly atmosphere, you can't get much better!

Challenge.
Pulling into Dallas Creek Road at 6:30 am, I could see the snow on the mountains but couldn't see the condition of the aspen trees. Once daylight arrived, it showed that the aspen colors were not in good shape. There was a freeze last week, some trees were bare, some had brown leaves while others were gold and still others were green. How was I going to get great shots out of this mess.

Solution.
Just because the conditions weren't great, good pictures were still available. I used a lot of long glass to separate nice sections of color. I also used the bare tree and brown leaves in my images. There were also strong winds, so I used that to my advantage.  The main thing was not to get bummed out and give up. When I worked for the Rocky Mountain News, you had to come back with strong images, no matter what the circumstances were! Keep an open mind and you will be rewarded.
