Last weekend I went out to photograph the Beaver Moon. The first night had beautiful light but a storm off to the east blocked the moon rise, behind the city. Went back to one of the small lakes near my home, as the sun lite up the sky. The next night (you usually get two opportunities to photograph a moon rise. The sky was full of smog when the moon came up. Will have to try again, with December's full moon rise.

Having to move down from the mountains to the Denver area, City of Lakewood, was not easy. I was looking forward to shooting the fall colors of this area and then an early snow storm rolled in, with temps in the 20s. Almost all the leaves froze and turned brown. I decided to go out anyway and see what I could find. These photos are the results of my search.

Went to Chatfield State Park to photograph the Hunters Moon. Using a compass I located the direction of the moon rise. As it came up, I notice a pelican moving across my viewfinder. I waited as it approached the reflection area but then it just turned around, what the heck!

NEW Post - GEORGETOWN LOOP RAILROAD

It has been almost 4 months since I made a new post. My cancer really controls my life. I had to move from my mountain home of 31 years. We moved to a city of Lakewood. It's just 5 minutes from the hospital. We do have a nice park right next to us, Kendrick Lake. Walk over there last night and took these images. Hope to get out more!

Colorado - Papaleo New Post- Kearney Nebraska Cranes.

I had covered the cranes in Monte Vista Colorado for many years so this year something new was needed. The cranes in Nebraska always interested me, so Dennis and I headed there. Dennis is the NREAL photographer and also worked with me at the former Rocky Mountain News. We found way more birds but they were over a very large area. Morning and evenings were fruitful, with nice light and sky. Shooting during the day was harder. With so many huge corn fields for the cranes to choice from, first you had to find them, and most of the time the where located in the middle of a square mile field. Even with our 500 mm lens and converters, we couldn't get many situations for up close shots. So when you found one, we shot, using my car as a blind.
