Colorado - Day Tripper 7 - Elk in the Foothills.

The foothills are a great place to look for elk. Each morning I would go for a ride to see what I could find. Most of the time I drew a blank, but there were those moments that made it worth while.

Pretty much every morning I go out for a drive, looking for wildlife. The following photos were taking during a few of those drives. My "X Shot" came about when I was photographing a young baby deer in the sun. It suddenly moved into the shade, I kept shoot with my daylight exposure, no time to change it. The ears and hind legs were hit with some light, properly exposed. Love those ears!

Colorado - Elk Rut Starts in Evergreen

I drove to downtown Evergreen for my daily early morning bull run (Red Bull). This gives me the chance of coming across some wildlife and this morning had results. A large bull was showing interest in a cow but she wanted nothing to do with him. The following photos shows what went down. With the rut comes danger, caution is always best.

For about a month now I have been taking an early morning drive, looking for baby elk. Yesterday I found what I was looking for. A group of them were with their moms just off highway 73. I was able to park safely and moved to the passenger seat. With this many little ones, you don't take any chances off an attack. The female can be very aggressive at this time.
