LOCATION
1. Boreas Pass runs from Como (hwy 285) to Breckenridge, Colorado.
2. Drive time from Denver about 2 hours.
3. The pass is a good dirt road.
4. Higher fall colors might be gone by now.

CHALLENGE.
I was going on a photo shoot with my friend Greg Walthour, up in the Breckenridge area. The high leaves were past their peek in this area but Greg had lined up such great lodging at the Elk Ridge Ranch, on the top of Hoosier Pass, that I couldn't turn it down. So the challenge was going to be to get a great shot from this location after peek.

SOLUTION.
With this area past peek, we decide to drive the pass from Breckenridge to Como in the evening, to locate aspen groves that still had nice color. Just north of Como was a nice group of trees with snow capped mountains behind them but it wasn't the right light to shoot. We decided to hit this area first thing in the morning. We got there before sunrise, when the ski is purple, but there is still light and started to shoot. By checking out the shoot area in advance we were able to get ourselves in position for this image.
