Ken Papaleo: X Marks the Shot: August 2016

Colorado - Photos through the eyes of children.

"X Shot" information.
Camera - Canon EOS Rebel T5
ISO - 800
Shutter Speed - 1/800sec.
F/stop - 5.6
Lens - 18-55 zoom

My whole family was going to meet in Lake Tahoe for a wedding. I decided to just bring my Canon Rebel to take family photos. While there I let my grand children (oldest is 8) take photos of their cousins. When I edited the files I was completely surprised. All images on this post were shot by Sydney, Gavin, Brooklyn and Colton. I really liked the way they got up close for portraits. The "X Shot" turned out to be a shot of little Zoe dancing with her mom. What a great moment!

Colorado - Deer and Elk are abundant in Evergreen.

"X Shot" information.
Camera - Canon EOS 5D Mark II
ISO - 400
Shutter Speed - 1/2000 sec.
F/stop - 4.5
Lens - 70/200 zoom

Pretty much every morning I go out for a drive, looking for wildlife. The following photos were taking during a few of those drives. My "X Shot" came about when I was photographing a young baby deer in the sun. It suddenly moved into the shade, I kept shoot with my daylight exposure, no time to change it. The ears and hind legs were hit with some light, properly exposed. Love those ears!

Colorado - Elk Rut Starts in Evergreen

I drove to downtown Evergreen for my daily early morning bull run (Red Bull). This gives me the chance of coming across some wildlife and this morning had results. A large bull was showing interest in a cow but she wanted nothing to do with him. The following photos shows what went down. With the rut comes danger, caution is always best.

Colorado - Perseid Meteor Shower 2016, Guanella Pass.

"X Shot" information.
Camera - Canon EOS 5D Mark II
ISO - 2000
F/Stop - 2.8
Shutter Speed - 30 sec.
Lens - 16/35 zoom
Note - Tripod and Cable Release used in all these shots.

This year there was to be a "outburst" Perseid Meteor Shower, so I couldn't miss it. I have a number of locations nearby to choose from and I took Guanella Pass, above Georgetown. The best viewing was after the moon went down at 1 am. The clouds moved out and there was no wind, it did get pretty cold. The Milky Way Galaxy was stunning! One real important thing is to get you lens focused at infinity, which can be a little hard at night. What I do is go out during the day and focus at infinity. Tape down the focus ring and turn off auto focus. Now your ready to go. I set in a chair and took 30 second exposures until dawn. It is not to late to view this meteor shower, even though the peak has past. The show will continue until August 24th.

"X Shot" information.
Camera - Canon 5D Mark II
ISO - 200
Shutter - 1/100 sec.
F/stop - 22
Lens - 70/200 zoom

When I visit the Dallas Divide are, it is usually in the fall for it's colors. This location is famous for aspens and snow covered mountains. This time a summer tripe was in order. One good thing was not may photographers were around, I pretty much had the place to my self. My "X Shot" came in the late evening. The sky was as blue as I had ever seen it and that along with all the green, made my image.
