Ice climbers from all over the world come to this location to climb the perfect manmade ice. A kind of sprinkler system runs along a canyon edge, making beautiful blue walls the climb. The park is free and open to public use. Every year they have the Ouray Ice Festival, this year it's January19 - 22, so there is still time to get there.

Colorado - Flash Back - Continental Divide Sunrise - 20/13/2005.

"X Shot" information.
Camera - Nikon D2H
ISO - 400
Shutter Speed - 1/250 sec.
F/stop - 5.6
Lens - 70/200 zoom

This is my favorite time in the morning to take pictures. Just before the sun comes up, the sky has some real nice colors, along with nice light on the snow. What makes this work is the exposure for the whole scene is about the some, no real hot spot.  Give it a try, the next time your out there before the sun come up.

Well, after being sidelined for the last three months, with a shoulder problem, I'm able to start taking photos again. My first shoot was at Staunton State Park, Pine Colorado. This is the states newest park, it opened May 18, 2013.  The views  are really great, summer or winter this park provides eye catching scenery.

Colorado - News Photography.

While working for the Rocky Mountain News, myself and the photo staff won two Pulitzer Prize Awards, one for the Columbine shootings and the other for wildfires in Colorado. One main reason was getting to the event before the authorities closed it down.  I shed a lot of tears covering these events and even got post-traumatic-stress, from Columbine. I'm grateful that news photography is behind me!
