Ken Papaleo: X Marks the Shot: Colorado - Environmental Portraits (some good tips).

Colorado - Environmental Portraits (some good tips).

"X Shot" information.
Camera - Canon EOS-1D Mark II
ISO - 100
Shutter Speed - 1/250 sec.
F/stop - 8
Lens  - 16/35 mm

An environmental portrait is basically taking a subject and placing it in it's surroundings. I tried to use available light, when possible. The use of props, that helps give information about your subject, works well. The biggest thing is that you have the make the person feel comfortable with you pretty quick. Talking for awhile, before you shot, is a good way to achieve this. This will also give you ideas on what to do for your portrait. These are some of my favorite shots.

About Me

My photo
Evergreen, Colorado, United States
I worked for the Rocky Mountain News for 28 years, until they went out of business. I now do freelance work, post this weekly blog, ski and play with my four grand children. I still have the love to get out and take photographs, which brings me great peace and comfort.
